Week 28

Fruit/Veggie
Chinese cabbage (weight)

Size
Almost 15 inches, 2.25 lbs

Baby Changes (Source: BabyCenter.com.)
He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb.

Best Moment this Week
Sunday was Josh's birthday, & we got to go to our old church in Midland since we were there for the weekend. On the ride home, Elliot was unexpectedly content (after a few recent longer car rides that were not so pleasant) & Josh & I were able to have a lot of good conversation. It was just all in all a good day together!

Gender
BOY! Jack Wesley.

Movement
Jack, over the past month or so, has moved up (can't remember if I have mentioned that or not yet), I believe much higher than Elliot ever hung out. It's getting harder to breathe, & I almost have to sit up completely to be (slightly) comfortable. I can tell when he moves lower too - it's like this weird sinking feeling & all of a sudden I have more space for my lungs & stomach.

Food Craving
I got my desired Oscar's Super Burrito this weekend - yum! Also had Rosa's for the third time in a week. :) (Gotta get my fill while I can!) Now, I want a burger. Gotta make that happen soon...

Sleep
I am EXHAUSTED when I wake up. It's SO hard to get out of bed. I still sleep pretty hard when I'm out, so that's good. But it just doesn't seem to be enough.

What I am looking forward to
The past couple of days, I have just wanted Jack to be here already! So, there's that. We are picking up the bunk bed this weekend so we'll hopefully get going more on Elliot's room.

Symptoms
Fatigue, shortness of breath, back pain (now sometimes not just when I sit or lay down, but when I'm walking around - I believe it's my slipped disk acting up, I remember it from last time too)

Week 27

Fruit/Veggie
Head of Cauliflower (weight)

Size
14 1/2 inches, almost 2 lbs

Baby Changes (Source: BabyCenter.com.)
He's sleeping & waking at regular intervals, opening & closing his eyes, & perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, his brain is very active now. While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning - with a lot of medical help - if he were born now.

Best Moment this Week
I got to eat Rosa's! Yes that is superficial, but it was delicious. Time for them to head south to San Antonio! I also got my glucose test out of the way & had a good appointment; my midwife believes that Jack is head down which is great. He can still turn obviously, but it's good to know he can get there - Elliot had me worried until 35 weeks that he'd be stuck breech!

Gender
BOY! Jack Wesley.

Movement
Jack's feet were on the right side of my stomach for several days in a row - I felt one poking out a few times. He seems quite squirmy, & gives a few kicks & jabs every now & then, though they aren't painful yet.

Food Craving
Mexican food, which I got three times last weekend! ha. But eating Rosa's made me think about my favorite bean & cheese burrito ever, from Oscar's Super Burrito... I used to have them in high school all the time. SO GOOD.

Sleep
Sleep just isn't great anymore. As soon as I can situate my hips, my upper back & shoulders start hurting. When I wake up to turn over, I realize I have to go to the bathroom. I wake up in the mornings feeling like I haven't rested well, still very tired & could easily spend a couple more hours in bed. Naps used to be really nice, but now I feel as though I barely fall asleep by the time Elliot wakes up, even though I'm pretty sure I do sleep. I guess good sleep is gone for a while!

What I am looking forward to
Continuing to work on Elliot's big boy room. We sold a good chunk of the guest room furniture, but there is a lot of stuff from the closet & the drawers in there that needs to be put away somewhere else, so we're going to have to get creative with making space elsewhere. It'll be nice once his room is done & I can pull out all the baby stuff (clothes, newborn diapers, etc.) for the nursery again.

Symptoms
Fatigue (lots), back pain, shoulder pain, cramping during my workout.

Week 26

Fruit/Veggie
English Hothouse Cucumber

Size
14 inches, 1.75 lbs

Baby Changes (Source: BabyCenter.com.)
He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat.

Best Moment this Week
It's going to sound really lame, but Sunday night Josh & I got into a "clean out" mood & we got rid of a LOT of stuff. I cleaned out some things from Elliot's bathroom that we didn't need, & Josh got rid of a lot of clothes & shoes. I took several bags of stuff to Goodwill the next day, & gave some away to people through this online group called Freecycle. I love getting rid of things! I can't explain it, but I don't like to have things lying around the house that we don't use, & we definitely need to be making space right now as everything in the guest room will get shifted to other places. It's a step in the right direction!

Gender
BOY! Jack Wesley.

Movement
Jack is still moving around a lot more now. I can't quite tell how he's positioned yet, but he's taking up a good amount of space in there.

Food Craving
Still loving those CHERRIES! Yumm.

Sleep
Sleep is going downhill pretty fast. I have a hard time getting comfortable - my lower back hurts, & then my shoulders start to hurt since I can't straighten them out while laying down. Napping is getting harder. But, once I'm out at night, I'm out for good (minus potty breaks).

What I am looking forward to
Getting Elliot's big boy room ready! We just found some bunk beds on craigslist that we like. I have been looking for over a month & haven't seen anything we wanted. We will pick them up in a couple of weeks, so I need to get rid of the guest room furniture & get things cleared out in there!

Symptoms
Fatigue, back pain, water retention, starting to have Braxton Hicks contractions a bit, especially when working out - definitely having to slow it down now. I feel the third trimester coming on, for sure!

Week 25

Missed a week again, oops!

Fruit/Veggie
Rutabaga (weight)

Size
13 1/2 inches, 1.5 lb

Baby Changes (Source: BabyCenter.com.)
He's beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. He's also growing more hair - and if you could see it, you'd be able to discern its color & texture.

Best Moment this Week
Last week, Josh & I were able to go out on a date for our anniversary (a few days late). A date is a rare occasion around here, but there is a lovely girl home from college that Elliot loves being around, so we'll be taking advantage of her this summer for sure! We ate some ribs (mmm, MEAT) & just enjoyed good conversation. It was great!

Gender
BOY! Jack Wesley.

Movement
Jack is starting to ramp up the movement now. He is pretty active at night. The past couple of weeks I had a definite growth spurt (which is why I was cramping) & he moved up (which is nice for my bladder) & is taking advantage of his new found space! He is stretching more, & will occasionally get in some kind of position that hurts... I feel that third trimester coming on!

Food Craving
Cherries! Oh sheesh, they are so expensive. But this week I splurged & have enjoyed them as a daily treat. YUM! I also wanted to make these chocolate chip coconut macaroons that we had every night at our B&B in Maine last month, so I have been enjoying those too.

Sleep
Yep, getting more uncomfortable! The first time I got up last night I could barely move! I was afraid I'd either get stuck or fall over.

What I am looking forward to
This weekend we are staying in town & have a few fun things planned - we have been really busy lately & have traveled the past two weekends, so I am excited to take it easy & relax a bit!

Symptoms
Fatigue (I have been EXHAUSTED lately), back pain.
